POPLAR CREEK PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT (PCPLD)
PRIVATE AUDIO/VIDEO STUDIO GUIDELINES

The PCPLD Internet Use Policy applies to all computers residing in Studio 1405. These procedures are specifically for private audio/video studios and the computers and equipment housed in the private audio/video studios.

WHO CAN RESERVE THE PRIVATE AUDIO/VIDEO STUDIOS

  • All PCPLD cardholders age 18 and older are eligible to reserve and use the private audio/video studios located within Studio 1405, providing they first register for the appropriate orientation or training session/tutorial. Patrons who have not been through orientation are not automatically able to reserve the private audio/video studios.

  • A person's own valid PCPLD card in good standing is required to reserve and checkout Studio computers, spaces and equipment.

  • The library card presented upon check-in must match the card account initially used to book the room.

  • If the PCPLD card holder is more than ten minutes late, they run the risk of forfeiting the reservation.

  • The Library may require cardholders to have a photo on file or an additional photo ID for the sole purpose of verifying cardholder identity for use of private audio/video studio spaces and equipment.

  • Patrons 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian while using private audio/video studio equipment and spaces. An adult cardholder in good standing is required to sign the room checkout agreement and is considered the responsible party should any equipment go missing or become damaged.

HOW TO RESERVE A PRIVATE AUDIO/VIDEO STUDIO AT STUDIO 1405

Reservations may be made by PCPLD library cardholders up to 30 days in advance by contacting Studio 1405 at 630.483.4939 or emailing studio1405@pclib.org

Sessions are a maximum of four hours in length. Individual members of a group may not ask for use of the room as a new group to gain extra time when the group is substantially the same as the original group. The following could cause a patron to have their Studio 1405 privileges suspended:

  1. Rooms may not be left unattended while reserved and in use. Please notify Studio 1405 staff if you need to leave the private studio for any reason. They will lock reserved room until your return. Failure to return within a reasonable period of time is also grounds for suspending privileges.

  2. Patrons should cancel reservations at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled use. Failure to provide 24 hours’ notice of a cancellation may be grounds for suspension of Studio privileges.

  3. A repeating pattern of arriving late for reservations is also grounds for suspended privileges.

USE OF STUDIO EQUIPMENT

An extensive collection of equipment including, but not limited to, digital media software and hardware, is available for use by library cardholders. Studio equipment will be checked out for in-library use only, to cardholders during their session.

Certain advanced equipment and software may require additional training and practical demonstration by the patron before it will be checked out. PCPLD staff discretion will determine the level of instruction and/or training required for cardholders to use any designated equipment and/or software. See STUDIO INSTRUCTION for more details. Equipment intended for use within Studio is loaned for a period of 4 hours. Equipment will be inspected in the presence of the patron, upon its return before being officially checked back in.

STUDIO INSTRUCTION

Studio staff are available during limited hours of operation. The Library offers tutorials and instruction that covers the computer software, production equipment, and project techniques used in the Studio. Comprehensive online training, eBook and book resources are also available. Scheduled one-on-one training sessions with the Studio 1405 staff are available for assistance with Studio supported software and equipment. Orientation and basic training is required prior to first use of the private audio/video studios.

DAMAGES AND LIABILITY

The library cardholder who reserves Studio spaces and equipment will be considered the main user and will bear responsibility for any damage or misuse of the equipment. Faulty equipment or room concerns must be reported immediately. Cardholders are responsible for returning and restoring all rooms and equipment to their original checked out condition.

Equipment should not leave Studio 1405 and therefore may not be returned to any other library service desk.

Fines will not be waived for lost items. Equipment that is checked out and returned damaged will be either billed to the cardholder for the full replacement cost for the overdue or damaged item plus any overdue fines.

FAIR USE AND COPYRIGHT

U.S. copyright law provisions for fair use of music, artwork and other creative works are extremely restrictive. Each person is personally responsible for knowing the copyright status of any music or graphic material included in digital media projects. See more information on fair use.

ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING, FILE SHARING, AND DUPLICATION

Computers and the Library network may not be used to illegally upload, download, or copy copyrighted materials including software, music, videos and graphics. This includes the use of online services that facilitate the unlicensed sharing of media files. Duplication of commercial products is not permitted. Scanning, digitization and media conversion: Concerns about copyright infringement extend to the use of equipment to duplicate copyright-protected documents and graphic materials. Each patron assumes all responsibility for observing copyright restrictions in the library.
